The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is returning in September

The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is returning this month for the 2020-21 season with a brand new program to enchant all ages of music lovers with the theme: “At the heart of the music”.
Conductor, Artistic and Musical Director Kazuki Yamada is back on 20th September for the Grand Opening Night of the season at the Grimaldi Forum at 6pm which will kick off with a Beethoven concert series featuring Antje Weithaas on violin, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker on cello and Martin Helmchen on piano. This will be followed up with three more nights of Beethoven on the 25th of September at 8pm, the 26th also at 8pm and the 27th at 6pm, all at the Rainier III Auditorium.

The Orchestra was created in 1856, it was called “Orchestre du Nouveau Cercle des Etrangers ”, then renamed in  1958 “Orchestre Nationale de l'Opéra de  Monte-Carlo ”, and finally since 1980“ Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo”, occupies a prominent place in the international musical world.
Thanks to its ability to combine tradition and modernity, it plays a role of foreground in the interpretation of symphonic works from the great repertoire, the renewal of rare and contemporary works and lyrical creation and choreographic.  Since the end of the 19th century, the number of "World Premieres" created in Monte-Carlo, and great composers, such as Massenet, Puccini, Ravel, Mascagni, Fauré, Franck, Honegger, Ibert, Lalo, Milhaud, Poulenc and Satie have found the ideal performer in the Philharmonic Orchestra.

Contemporary music has always been present in the seasons of the OPMC, with among others, Henze, Dutilleux, Pärt, Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Holliger, Ligeti, Takemitsu, Eötvös, Amy, Mainz, Hurel. Have succeeded each other, under different names, permanent chef - titular chef - first guest chef - Musical Director - Artistic and Musical Director, from 1856 to the present day: Alexandre Hermann, Eusèbe Lucas, Léon Jehin, Louis Ganne, Marc César Scotto, Victor de Sabata, Paul Paray, Henri Tomasi, Louis Frémaux, Edouard van Remoortel, Igor Markevitch, Lovro von Matacic, Lawrence Foster, James DePreist, Marek Janowski, Yakov Kreizberg and Gianluigi Gelmetti, Honorary Chef of the OPMC.

Since the 2016-2017 season, Kazuki Yamada is the Artistic and Musical Director of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. We remember the greatest glories of the past among the chiefs guests, A. Toscanini, W. Furtwängler, R. Strauss, B. Walter, D. Mitropoulos, E. Kleiber, A. Cluytens, G. Marinuzzi, Sir T. Beecham, C. Schuricht, K. An erl, Ch. Münch, E. Jochum, L. Stokowski, Sir. J. Barbirolli, P. Klecki, G. Szell, among the people closest to us, L. Bernstein, C.-M. Giulini, R. Kubelik, Sir George Solti; and closer to us W. Sawallisch, K. Sanderling, G. Priest, L. Maazel, K. Kondrachine, Ch. Von Dohnanyi, Z. Mehta, G. Rojdestvenski, Y. Temirkanov, as well as all the great current conductors.

Extraordinary events have marked the history of the OPMC, like the complete Bartók concertos, by Zoltán Kocsis, the Requiem by Berlioz at the Dom in Berlin and the Gurre-Lieder by Schoenberg at the Grimaldi Forum, then at the Berlin Philharmonic, with the Rundfunk Sinfonie  Orchester Berlin, Rundfunkchor Berlin and Mitteldeutscher Rundfunkchor Leipzig.

The Orchestra is regularly invited by major festivals: Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Prague, Strasbourg, Montreux, Vienna, Orange, Dresden, Bonn, Leipzig, Ankara, Athens, Bad Kissingen, Dublin, Lisbon, Lyon, Rheingau, La Roque of Anthéron.

He also makes numerous tours abroad (Austria, Germany, Belgium, China, South Korea, Spain, United States, Great Britain,Italy, Japan, Switzerland, etc.)

The fall of 2010 saw the launch of the "OPMC Classics" label of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. Five discs, edited by Yakov Kreizberg, have been edited, with works by Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel, Debussy, Moussorgsky, Chostakovitch and Mahler, these different records are are seen awarded numerous prizes by the music press. Under the direction of Gianluigi Gelmetti have published a tribute disc to Léo Ferré (Symphonie interrupted and La Chanson du mal-aime), a disc dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi and, the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival, contemporary works by G. Amy, P. Maintz and P. Hurel (direction Jean Deroyer, baritone Otto Katzameier).

The recording policy continues with Kazuki Yamada, a first CD was released in 2017: the Symphonie Fantastique et Rêverie and Caprice by Berlioz.

Under the chairmanship of HRH the Princess of Hannover, Princess Caroline, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte-Carlo  enjoys the support and encouragement of HSH Prince Albert II. The Orchestra, assuring him with all its confidence and with all his esteem, continues in his own way: to preserve its authenticity while looking resolutely towards the future, thanks to a dynamic policy encouraged by the Prince's Government and resume its commitment to the life of the Principality.

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra benefits from the support of Prince's Government, the Société des Bains de Mer and the Association of Friends of the Orchestra.
