Tri-partite meeting - Monaco Andorra and San Marino

18/05/2017

In early May the president of the Monaco Commission of Foreign Affairs, Mr Jean-Charles Allavena, met with the members of the ministries of foreign relations of the parliaments of the Principality of Andorra and the Republic of San Marino. This was the latest of a series of consultations that have become a regular event between the states, since 2010.

The purpose of the meetings, that took place over the 4th and 5th May, was with the aim of reinforcing the already strong cooperation  between the three states and to share their respective thoughts and view on the continuing negotiations with the EU. A number of meetings over the two days, were held to discuss various aspects of the ongoing talks with the EU for an association to permit the free movement of goods, services and workers and the alignment with the EU’s aims and objectives.

The stated purpose of the association with the EU would be to offer long term dialogue and cooperation with EU member states and European institutions. The three states share a common interest in highlighting mutual points of interests and individual differences with the EU.

This is the second tripartite meeting this year, after a meeting in March presided over by Prince Albert of Monaco with the Head of the Government of Andorra, Mr Antoni Marti Petit and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, Mr Nicola Renzi.

Further tripartite consultations between the states are planned through the remainder of this year and during the course of 2018.
